It deserves its 3 stars. The staff and amenities was what makes that place ideal. It was in the very central location. Antiques with coffee & goodies is 400 metres walk away.
-
Our stay here was pleasant, easy base for exploring Bishop Auckland. Adjacent to the airport, 30 km. The room we booked included the kitchen.
The street was usually noisy.
-
everything was excellent, loyal staff and marvellous location. the place is 3 km away from bishop auckland downtown. the bar was welcoming. we enjoyed having a terrace. there is a quiet garden. all in all, great value.
-
Beautiful, old, English, just as you like it.
The shower had only little water.
-
Hotel very clean and quaint. Staff friendly and food good. Very reasonable prices, Staff very helful. Would like to go again with a group of friends att one of their occasion/theme nights.
-
The helpful staff went out of their way to be pleasant and helpful. Carried our luggage from the car to the room.
The duvets were too warm even with the window open and the pillows were hard. Missing from the room was the handset for the tv, information about the hotel and facilities, mealtimes, spa and safety! The member of staff found the handset under the bed. We found money (£3.40. & hair grips under the bed so the cleaning hadnot been done well enough. Reception did not have spare information sheets that had been missing from the room!

Staff very friendly and more importantly efficient. Excellent location. Impressed by the history of the hotel and the way in which the original features were retained. Relaxed and friendly atmosphere althoiugh we only stayed one night felt like a real break.
-
I liked the fact that this is a litlle diffferent from the chain hotels and feels quite historical. The room was spacious, clean and quiet and the breakfast was excellent. The hotel is located in countryside.
The 'Stable Bar' was a little strange in that it was set apart from the main buildings and to get coffee, you had to go back to the main building and then it would be carried through. Also, it was advertised as being close to Durham, but it actually takes about 30 minutes to get to Durham from the hotel.
-
Very comfortable, good quality hot food, quick, courteous service, friendly staff. Magnificent building, but on one overnight stay for bed & breakfast, no time to enjoy a tour of the building, glimpsing only one of the panelled rooms. Have recommended to our local family and would stay again.

Liked the old world charm of the place. Beautifully renovated hotel. If you like old stone buildings, this is superb and the rooms were excellent for the price. Nothing much around the close vacinity but this is a little oasis where the food and service were very good. No point in eating elsewhere as there didn't look to be anywhere and the restaurant, staff and food were excellent.
-
Friendly and welcoming staff, but a very tired old building.
We could hear everything going on in the next bedroom, walls are very thin!
-
our room was in the attic and i dont think the cleaners liked heights as the landing was dirty with flaking paint on the carpet and cobwebs in the eaves
